Google (GOOG) Starts Testing Same-Day Delivery Concept for Shoppers

Just days following word that Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) would be testing a brick-and-mortar collaboration with online shopping to take on Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) isn't taking a breather.

The company is recruiting shoppers in the San Francisco-area for testers of its new same-day delivery service. Along with bigger retail names like Target (NYSE: TGT) and Walgreen (NYSE: WAG), Google plans to deliver from local shops as well.

Google offers a simple three-step process to really get the full experience:
  1. Find what you need - Browse local stores online in one place;

  2. Select a delivery window - Provide delivery instructions for our couriers

  3. Get it delivered today - Live life on your schedule

Your schedule. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it?

Investors in Google are hoping it might be cost effective as well. One potential upside over the longer-term would be Google's effort to make a driverless car. Should the thing eventually be solar-powered and connected to every other car on the road, cost less some maintenance would be marginal, and customers would be just as happy.

Shares of Google are lower on the session.
