On the company's conference call Thursday, BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) CEO Thorsten Heins alluded to "possible licensing" of the BlackBerry 10 operating system. He noted that about 60 carriers are carrying the Z10. Heins said that the U.S. accounted for 14 percent of sales and U.K. sales improved 13 percent last quarter.
He also noted that the Q10 will debut in April as expected and the company is testing with 40 carriers in 20 countries.
Heins noted that 55 percent of customers are coming over from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android/Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS platforms.
Production of BB10 devices picked up in the latter-part of BlackBerry's fiscal Q413 due to increasing demand.
His goal is to transform BlackBerry from being a smartphone company to being a global leader in mobile computing. "Make no mistake: we plan to stay in the services business," he noted.
The company is also exploring "cross-platform" offerings.
Heins said that the U.S. accounted for 14 percent of sales and U.K. sales improved 13 percent, last quarter from the prior year. Canada saw a 62 percent jummp in sales growth sequentially.
Heiins noted that BlackBerry isn't a one to two quarter company, rather a five to 10 year company.
Shares are lower premarket after restarting higher following Q413 results Thursday morning.
