Urban Outfitters Inc. (Nasdaq: URBN) may be in talks to acquire one of the most popular retailers in years.
According to the NY Times, Nasty Gal CEO Sophia Amoruso commented that her outfit and Urban Outfitters are in "talks" only about a potential deal, amid market chatter suggesting that the deal is near completion.
The Times notes that LA-based Nasty Gal had $100 million in sales last year and did so in a profitable way. The article is robust, but the key point here is that the company has about half-a-million Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) fans and another 600,000 on Instagram.
The addition wouldn't be a game-changer for Urban Outfitters, which is expected to rack of revenue of $3.2 billion in its current fiscal year. Still, with a solid fan base, profitable sales structure, and creative business acumen, the addition of Nasty Gal and Amoruso would be a boon for Urban Outfitters and its investors.
Shares of Urban Outfitters are down 0.7 percent.
