Bit o' Irish Luck Hits Disney (DIS) as 'Oz' Continues Theater Dominance

Disney (NYSE: DIS) is more than making up for last year's movie flub "John Carter" as "Oz The Great and Powerful" racks-up another winning weekend.
Rentrak (Nasdaq: RENT) said total pull for "Oz" was $42.2 million through March 17, 2013, bringing its cumulative total to $281.83 million since launch.
"A Good Day To Die Hard" was second with worldwide ticket revs of $21.55 million (just $1.15 million in U.S. theaters). "Die Hard" is produced by Fox, of News Corp (Nasdaq: NWSA).
Sony's (NYSE: SNY) "The Call" was third with revs of $17.1 million.
Newcomer "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" was anything but, drawing $10.3 million in its opening weekend, putting it third in the U.S. and fifth globally. "Wonderstone" was produced by Tome Warner's (NYSE: TWX) Warner Bros.
As mentioned last week, "John Carter" ended up costing Disney $350 million or so in production and marketing expenses while its total draw in theaters was far from getting back to even.
Amid the positive weekend run, Disney shares are about 0.9 percent lower Monday.
