Glu Mobile (Nasdaq: GLUU) is comfortably higher on the session as new NPD data for February video game sales is disseminated.

Total sales, which includes software, hardware and accessories, fell 25 percent to $810 million. Digital sales hit $319 million, from $382 million in January. Notably, January included a shift, as described in USA Today: "The NPD Group follows the National Retail Federation's calendar, which adds a "Leap Week" every few years when reporting sales. As a result, results are based on a five-week period instead of four weeks."

Digital sales are still robust and many expected the shift from hardware to mobile to continue over the long run.

Glu shares are up 11.7 percent Friday.

Those interested in Glu should also note that the company launched its first real-money mobile gambling offering through Probability plc. That puts Glu and Zynga (Nasdaq: ZNGA) in hot contention.
