BlackBerry (BBRY) Sees Another Corporate Customer Shift to Apple (AAPL)

Despite debuting with all the glitz and glamor of a first-class Hollywood movie premiere, BlackBerry's (Nasdaq: BBRY) new BB10 mobile operating system wasn't enough to retain at least one large corporate customer.

AppleInsider reports that Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is moving its management and corporate workers from BlackBerry to versions of the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 4S. The move will shift out 10,000 BlackBerry users, according to the report.

Store employees will still be using some 60,000 smartphones from Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Motorola unit.

The decision would have been made months ago, with the impact of BB10 having a limited impact on the current decision. BlackBerry has been struggling to retain corporate and government contracts as officials and executives have become more comfortable with the security provided by iOS and Google Android. With BB10, BlackBerry hopes to turn around much of the sentiment, though it seems more like a multi-year process versus something that can happen in the near term.

BB10 had been plagued with several delays, costing BlackBerry over a year-and-a-half of time for corporations to change perceptions.

Ahead of the bell, BlackBerry is down about 4.5 percent. Shares are still up nearly 40 percent in 2013.
