Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) is making larger strides in mobile with plans for an application that tracks the location of users.
According to Bloomberg, the app will assist users in finding friends that are nearby and would run even if the application isn't open. The app should be released in the middle of March.
Though Facebook already records the location of users when they post status updates via mobile, the company may have already gotten permission to track a users location. Bloomberg alludes to Facebook's user policy, which states, in part, that Facebook may use information on location "to tell you and your friends about people or events nearby, or offer deals to you that you might be interested in."
In late trading Monday, Facebook is up about 0.7 percent. Shares slipped 5.5 percent through the session.
