Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Nexus 7 tablet is a lot of things, but it's no Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad mini.
And that's just the way Japan likes it.
According to Japan's Nikkei news wire, the Nexus 7 is outpacing iPad mini sales in Japan. The survey, conducted by BCN in December, asked 2,4000 consumer electronics stores what sales were like. Results showed that the Nexus 7 took 44.4 percent of the tablet market, while the iPad mini nabbed just 40.1 percent.
Pricing was one of the big draws, according to BCN, was pricing. The Nexus 7 comes in at about $100 less than the least-expensive version of the iPad mini.
As might be expected, the data wasn't entirely clean. BCN noted that a shortage in iPad mini supply may have contributed to some sales losses, though the firm believes the price difference would have kept the Nexus 7 ahead anyway.
Shares of Apple and Google are indicated higher Thursday.
