Deutsche Bank upgraded Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC) from Hold to Buy with a price target of $78.00 (from $66.00).

The firm sees a strong setup in the stock after underperforming the S&P 500 by 28.5 percentage points last year, and missing out on broader market gains over the past two years.

Deutsche Bank notes a solid utility coal franchise, limited downside to muted 2013-14 export coal expectations expected productivity gains, and a potential step-up in crude-by-rail in H2 2013-14.
