RIM (RIM) Garners Massive Support for BB10 Launch in U.S. (T) (VZ)

If you can one thing Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) has going for it into the launch of its next-generation BlackBerry 10 operating system, it would be support.

Sometimes wireless carriers will negotiate with device makers for exclusive or better deals to carry certain hardware. This will generally end up with the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone being carried by one provider for a time until the honeymoon wears off and more distribution is needed. Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is another good example of this, going with AT&T (NYSE: T) on the launch of its Lumia smartphone, while Verizon (NYSE: VZ) followed up a short time after. Sprint (NYSE: S) will only start carrying Windows Phones within a few months and even then none will be a Lumia.

But, RIM is different. RIM has BlackBerry, previously king of the mobile world. Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint -- the three largest wireless providers in the U.S. -- have all voiced that they would be carrying BB10 at launch, which is slated for January 30th. T-Mobile USA also will carry devices at launch.

Last quarter, the Waterloo, Ontario-based mobile giant said subs slipped just one million globally to 79 million in its most recent quarter.

Shares are up 3.2 percent Thursday.
