Boeing (NYSE: BA) is responding to events that happened this week surrounding the 787 Dreamliner. Chief Engineer Mike Sinnett spoke on a conference call today.
Largely, Sinnett's comments back up Boeing's confidence in the 787. He noted that the 787 was meeting expectations on similar level of 777 back in the 1990s and its performance is still better than any other widebody jet.
The company still believes in lithium-ion batteries as the primary power source on the Dreamliner. The batteries have over one million hours of testing under them without an issue. In the unlikely event that a batter does fail, Boeing has protections in place.
Sinnett noted that one of the power panels from a supplier was faulty, though the company is working to better understand the issue.
Shares of Boeing are up about 3 percent on teh session, ticking off of intraday highs.
