Facebook finds a friend in iOS...and Android!

About 70 percent Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS users have the Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) app installed on their smartphone, noted Enders Analysis today. Only 40 percent of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android smartphone users can make the same claim.

However, despite a larger chunk of iOS users having the Facebook app on their device, Android still accounts for a larger portion of visits. Data from September 2012 had Android making up 16 percent of total monthly active users (MAUs), versus 13 percent for iOS. Non-mobile users were at 44 percent and Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) BlackBerry platform made up about 9 percent.

One Enters Analysis analyst commented, "However, at least 100 million (a very rough estimate) was in China with no access to Facebook, giving Facebook an effective penetration of 40 percent of the 450 million phones outside China..."

The number is important for Facebook; about 604 million of its 1.07 billion total users accessed the social network website via a mobile device last September.

Facebook shares are up 3 percent on the session Monday, hitting the highest levels seen since last July.
