According to Digitimes on Thursday, lagging sales of PCs equipped with Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 8 operating system may be hitting optical disk drive (ODD) manufacturers in the coming quarter.
'Sources' said that first-quarter 2013 PC-use ODD shipments will fall by five percent to 10 percent.
Digitimes' also noted that U.S.-, China-, and Taiwan-based ODD vendors tend to be a little conservative, though Japan-based ODD vendors see shipments flat in early 2013.
Sources indicated that Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) Haswell platform launch in the second quarter as well as dwindling Windows 7-equipped PCs will equate to a rebound in demand during the second-half of 2013.
Shares of Microsoft are indicated for a higher open Thursday.
