With shares of Marriott Int. (NYSE: MAR), Wyndham (NYSE: WYN), and a number of other lodging stocks outperforming the S&P 500, 2012 was a solid year in lodging. Looking ahead, analysts at Deutsche Bank said they have a favorable outlook for 2013, and they view Starwood Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: HOT) as their top pick in the coming year.

"Despite an uninspiring macroeconomic environment in 2012, it's been a solid year for lodging stocks and lodging fundamentals have held up nicely following a strong 2011 as the sector continues to benefit from the meaningful supply/demand disconnect. As we look ahead to 2013, we have a largely favorable view and believe RevPAR growth expectations remain reasonable despite significant macro ambiguity, most notably around the Fiscal Cliff issues," said analyst Carlo Santarelli.

"We believe recent momentum in HOT shares is likely to carry into 2013 when we expect overly conservative concerns about HOT's European and China exposure to mitigate,” said Santarelli.

Deutsche Bank has a Buy rating on Starwood Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: HOT) with a price target of $61.00.
