Google (GOOG) Says Maps for iOS 6 Attracts Massive Interest in First Two Days (AAPL)

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is looking pretty sharp today following an update by Senior Vice President Jeff Huber on Google Maps for iOS 6 today.

Not that Google Maps was updated, Huber was just putting some numbers to the chatter following the app becoming available on Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) App Store last week. According to Huber, Maps was downloaded over 10 million times in the first 48 hours it was available.

Huber commented, "We're excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world. Congratulations to the Maps Team on the recognition for the passion and hard work they poured into it, for this release and over the last 7+ years."

As mentioned last week, Google Maps will benefit both Apple and Google; Google will get data form a large demographic of users while iPhone owners will use their devices more often, a real sticking point any way you slice it.

Google is up 2.5 percent while Apple is 1.3 percent better on the session, trading at intraday highs.
