Okay, now Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) can start to worry.
Latest data out of Chitika, as conveyed via AllThingsD today, has Microsoft's Surface RT tablet barely registering on its latest web traffic survey.
Chitika took impressions from "tens of millions" of ads on its network originating from tablet devices. Data came from U.S. and Canadian users from November 12th through the 18th. Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad registered 88 percent of traffic, no real surprise there. Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Nexus family was at 0.9 percent.
Microsoft's tablet was negligible at 0.13 percent.
Numbers highlight challenges competitors face against Apple in the tablet market. Google's Nexus 7 tablet has been available since last July and traffic is still less than 1 percent.
Some could argue that Apple has the first-mover advantage. We'd point to a news bit released earlier in the day that Apple is already ousting competition in a market segment after just two months.
Given the wide adoption and familiarity of Google's Android operating system, how much better does Microsoft plan to do with a new device, in a tough segment, running an operating system that has received mixed reviews across the board?
Shares of Microsoft are up 1.5 percent Tuesday.
