Baltic Exchange Says Dry Bulk Trading at $8.6B in FY12 (DRYS) (PRGN)

DryShips (Nasdaq: DRYS) is ticking higher Monday following new data out of the Baltic Exchange today.

The Baltic said that tanker freight swaps were worth $3.4 billion in the 12 months ended in October. Overall, dry bulk trading was worth $8.6 billion in the last year.

It wasn't made immediately clear whether this was an improvement from numbers in 2011.

Shares of DryShips are down 0.9 percent, but were as much as 2.4 percent lower early on the session. Traders will also be watching Paragon (NYSE: PRGN) and FreeSeas (Nasdaq: FREE), among other shippers today.
