Boeing (NYSE: BA) is on watch Monday following news earlier that rival Airbus is getting some key attention.
According to a release earlier today, the State of Qatar’s national airline, Qatar Airways, and Airbus signed an amendment to convert its existing firm order for twenty (20) A350-800’s, forty (40) A350-900’s and twenty (20) A350-1000’s to forty three (43) A350-900’s and thirty seven (37) A350-1000’s. Qatar Airways’ total order for A350 XWB aircraft remains at eighty (80) aircraft.
Qatar's move highlights its need for the larger aircraft. The A350 line is a competitor to Boeing's 777 and 787 models.
Whether or not Qatar's lead will filter into other major players is questionable; the country might be prepping for when it hosts the World Cup in 2022. Given delivery times on larger aircraft lately and the potential for unseen delays, that might be exactly. the case.
Boeing is just about flat in early trading.
