Foxconn Unit Said to Get Smartphone Orders from Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN)

Following up on loads of market chatter, Digitimes is reporting today that Foxconn International Holding, a unit of Foxconn Electronics, may have received orders from Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) to build smartphones. If orders did roll in, Microsoft and Amazon might not begin selling the devices until the middle of 2013.
Foxconn typically is known for building Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone devices, as well as products for Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) and Dell (Nasdaq: DELL).
Expectations are for a limited initial production, Digitimes notes.
Amazon is up 0.3 percent on the session Tuesday, while Microsoft is down 0.8 percent.
