Boeing (NYSE: BA) shares are active tody as VP and general manager of Airplane Programs Pat Shanahan speaks at an RBC conference today.
Shanahan says production of the 787 will ramp to 5 per month in November and 7 per month by the middle of 2013. Over the long-term, Shanahan says Boeing is aiming for a rate of 10 per month.
Boeing plans to start building 787-9 models in late spring/winter of 2013.
Few risks are involved in ramping production, Shanahan noted, with the biggest hurdle being supply chain efficiency. He is feeling good about raw material supply for the 787 airplane.
In terms of the 787-10, Shanahan said there was still a lot of work to do and doesn't expect the model to enter service until the back-end of the decade.
Shares are modestly positive on the session.
