Nokia (NOK) CEO Elop Debuts New Cloud-Based Map Service; Acquires 3D Mapping Company

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) CEO Stephen Elop is dubbing its new cloud-based location service as one of the five key businesses for Nokia moving forward.
Speaking at a mapping event in San Francisco today, Elop introduced Nokia's new Here service.
Powering maps for the likes of Rand McNally, Yahoo!, Bing, and others has allowed Nokia to gather a smorgasbord of information, with Elop noting that usage has increased 75-fold over the last year. Nokia has improved its scale by including mapping data in a single, cloud-based service.
In addition to Here, Nokia is also said to have acquired 3D mapping company Earthmine.
Moving forward, the other four components for Nokia's five-part plan are smartphones, basic phones, cellular infrastructure, and patents.
Shares of Nokia are down about 1.5 percent on the session.
