Several years ago AT&T (NYSE: T) acquired spectrum but has been unable to use it because of concerns it would interfere or knock out Sirius XM (Nasdaq: SIRI) radio service. Today regulators approved a jointly proposed plan that allows AT&T to use a portion of the band.
The agreement ends a longstanding issues faced by regulators regarding use of the airwaves. Specifically, AT&T will use 20 Mhz of the 30 Mhz it holds and leave the rest empty to protect Sirius service.
AT&T said it may begin using the newly stamped spectrum within three years.
