Apple (AAPL) Gives Nod to Smaller iPad Production

October 3, 2012 7:38 AM EDT
Love your iPad, but wish it were a touch smaller? Do you believe in miracles?

According to the WSJ on Wednesday, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is telling Asian suppliers to "make it so" on a smaller version of its uber-popular tablet device.

As previously reported, the device will boast a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal, though it will have a lower resolution than the current iPad models.

Many also expect the device to be revealed sometime in October, ahead of the important holiday shopping season

Apple is making the move as it looks for complete tablet market domination. Most competitors like Barnes & Noble's (NYSE: BKS) NOOK, Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Nexus 7, and Amazon's (Nasdaq: AMZN) Kindle Fire line, run a smaller display for easier portability.

Shares of iPad Apple are indicated higher in early trading.
