Maps: the next big deal in smartphones.
Following Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) map app issue last week, the big focus has been around how well an company's mapping application for mobile devices performs. Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has been the clear winner here, with all other companies trying to meet the benchmark.
One company that has done well is Nokia...well, its recently acquired NAVTEQ unit anyway. Nokia acquired NAVTEQ in 2007 for about $8.1 billion.
Today, Noka (NYSE: NOK) and Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) are expected to unveil a new maps deal at OracleWorld.
For Oracle, it means customers will be able to integrate "consistent and broad mapping capabilities" into Oracle apps. For Nokia, its just another step in strengthening credibility.
Other partners with Nokia include such names as Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Groupon (Nasdaq: GRPN), and Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO).
Nokia shares are indicated for a higher open Monday.
