Shares of Green Mountain (NASDAQ: GMCR) are essentially blowing off news that Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) is giving away K-cups at its stores, possibly to make room for pods of its own Verismo pods.
At Starbucks stores from Thursday (9/27) through Sunday (9/30), when you buy any 12-count box of Starbucks K-Cup packs you will receive a 2nd pack free.
While Starbucks didn't elaborate on its intentions, Verismo will be available in select specialty retailers and Starbucks retail stores in the U.S., Canada, and select international markets starting in early October. Some are speculating Starbucks is clearing out K-cup shelf-space that it will use for Verismo pods.
Shares of GMCR last traded at $24.94, up 6 percent.
