"Amazon! salesforce.com! We've got you in our sights!" - IBM

According to reports outs Wednesday, Int'l Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) is gunning for a piece of the salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) and Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) pie...and things are about to get a little cloudy. Literally.

IBM is expected to announced ramped-up efforts to expand its enterprise cloud computing business to mid-sized companies. Mid-sized companies are those with 1,000 employees or less, according to the WSJ.

The move is notable, given that IBM has historically dealt with larger corporations and governments. Vice-versa, salesforce.com and Amazon.com are expected to make a broader push into larger corporations, after having some success in the mid-sized business market.

Currently, Amazon.com is considered the leader for renting computing power and salesforce.com is the champion in customer management software over the Internet, noted the WSJ.

In any case, the segment is rather large; cloud computing sales were $50 billion in FY11, which is expected to grow to $58 billion in FY12, according to research firm Gartner.

Shares of IBM are modestly higher Wednesday morning.
