Go big or go home.
That's Iranian hackers' motto today. According to Reuters, three of the largest U.S. financial institutions in the U.S. -- Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), J.P. Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM), and Citigroup (NYSE: C) -- have come under cyber attack from Iran over the last year.
Since the end of 2011, attacks on the three have escalated, taking down corporate websites and networks.
It may seem strange to launch a cyber attak from Iran, but the country has beefed-up capability following damage to its nuclear program in 2010. The virus in the attack -- the Stuxnet -- was widely believed to have been developed by the U.S., Reuters notes.
Whether critical data was breached in the attacks isn't known yet. The move, however, highlights an ever growing threat from Iran.
JPMorgan, Citi, and BofA shares are all lower on the session Friday.
