Apple's (AAPL) Smaller iPad May Cause Peers to Halve Tablet Prices (GOOG) (AMZN)

According to Digitimes, prices on non-Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) tablets priced at $199 to $400 could drop down to $150 to $200 each following the release of the rumored iPad mini.

Apple's influence over the smaller tablet market will be felt following the debut of its 7.85-inch iPad. Names like Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), Acer, and Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) sell smaller tablets based on Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system.

However, despite the price chop, Digitimes says many won't experience losses due to profits garnered from 3G plans with wireless carriers.

Expectations from industry sources are calling for the smaller iPad to start selling some time in the fourth-quarter 2012.

Shares of Apple are flat on the session, while Google and Amazon are positive.
