China Unicom (CHU) Says iPhone 5 to Land in China by End of FY12

September 14, 2012 7:08 AM EDT
One China Unicom (NYSE: CHU) executive affirmed the Chinese wireless carrier would have Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) new iPhone 5 "within three months."

According to Sohu.com, China Unicom's Li Gang said the carrier rushed to get a deal done with Apple over the summer. Comments were made in an interview with Sohu IT.

China Unicom will need China Radio Authority approval as well as MIIT network license before the carrier can begin selling the iPhone 5.

Last year, the iPhone arrived in China about three months after its debut in the states.

Given the already hot sales for the iPhone in several markets, China might be yet another stunning growth driver for the Cupertino, CA-based consumer electronics and media giant.

Shares of Apple are indicated higher Friday morning.
