Grainger (GWW) Slips as Macro Pressures Hit August Sales in Key Markets (FAST) (AXE)

Shares of W.W. Grainger (NYSE: GWW) are ticking lower in early trading following August sales metrics released earlier.
The industrial equipment retailer reported an increase of 10 percent for the month, or 7 percent on an organic basis (excluding acquisitions and FX impact). The number is a slowdown from organic sales increasing 8 percent in July and 9 percent in the same period last year.
Selling days, at 23, were flat from August 2011.
Sales all around showed a drop in key markets. U.S. growth slowed from 8 percent down to 4 percent and Canada moved from 30 percent down to 13 percent. Other Business sales growth bolstered the drop, rising 30 percent from 23 percent last year.
Traders are likely to keep an eye on Grainger competitors, including Fastenal (Nasdaq: FAST), Anixter (NYSE: AXE), and Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK), among others. Shares of Grainger are 1.6 percent lower in early trading.
