Barclays maintains an 'Overweight' on General Motors (NYSE: GM) price target of $35.00.

Analyst, Brian A. Johnson, said, "In our view, VW is beating GM with a combination of 21st century engineering and early-mid 20th century managerial techniques from GM in its prime. With GM under attack in the press and from investors for a seeming lack of strategic direction, weak product execution, and continued cultural stagnation, we think GM could learn a number of things from the 20 year turnaround at VW."

Johnson sees VW as the world's premier mass market (luxury) firm with multiple brands. The Barclay's analyst believes that VW is beating GM and using GM's old playbook. Three points to his credit include: 1) S-T financial fixes and Mid-Term process transformation; 2) Aligning product excellence with profit goals; and 3) Rallying shareholders.
