U.S. Steel (X) Lifts Peers Higher Following Strong Q2 Results (MT) (NUE) (AKS)

July 31, 2012 10:08 AM EDT
U.S. Steel (NYSE: X) has been hampered over the last several months, as expectations for a jump in demand in steel have waned with Europe still in debt-crisis mode and China's economic growth showing signs of slowing.

However, the steel giant beat second-quarter 2012 expectations earlier as its European unit returned to profitability. Revenue fell 2 percent to $5.02 billion while net income was halved to 62 cents per share.

On the results, U.S. Steel is up 4 percent Tuesday. Traders are also keeping an eye on segment peers and competitors, including: Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE), Steel Dynamics Inc. (NYSE: STLD), AK Steel Holding Corp. (NYSE: AKS) and ArcelorMittal (NYSE: MT).
