Needham & Company maintains a 'Buy' on Optimer Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: OPTR).

Analyst, Alan Carr, said, "Optimer is expected to announce 2Q12 financial results on 7/31/12. Our 2Q12 Dificid net sales estimate is $18.0M (was $19.0M), based on updated IMS data. The company reported $14.4M in Dificid net sales in 1Q12. Optimer announced in May 2012 that the company expects to exceed the first year sales target under the Cubist commercialization deal, which would trigger a $5M incentive payment and profit split...Collaborator Astellas (OTC: ALPM) launched Dificlir in Europe in June 2012, triggering a €10M milestone payment to Optimer. This payment was recognized in 4Q11. The drug was approved in Canada in July 2012, where it will be marketed by Optimer’s sales force."
