Microsoft (MSFT) Mum on WP7 Sales in China; Said to Outpace Apple (AAPL)

Shares of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) are looking strong ahead of the bell Monday amid unconfirmed reports the company is beating it's largest rival in the world's largest emerging economy. At least in the realm of mobile devices.
According to reports out over the weekend, Microsoft's operating chief in Greater China, Michel van der Bel, is said to have hinted at a 7 percent market share for its Windows Phone 7 platform in the region. This compares with just 6 percent for rival Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL). Reports were attributed to a Dutch magazine, though the exec isn't directly quoted as saying Microsoft's WP7 was selling like hotcakes.
Microsoft hasn't affirmed or denied the reports.
WP7 was launched in China last March. The country boasts the most annual activations and overall user base.
Shares are up about 0.3 percent Monday morning.
