Comcast (CMCSA) Lifts Monthly Data Allotment, Becomes Firmer on Offenders

May 17, 2012 2:31 PM EDT
Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) shares are edging higher Thursday amid reports it is getting serious when customers surpass the 300-gigabyte (GB) of data per month.

According to the Washington Post (WaPo), Comcast's previous limit was set at 250-GB per month, with expectations to charge for overages.

That's just what Comcast did, as well. Before, Comcast would simply issue warnings to abusers with cancellation of service for repeat offenders. Now, the communications giant will charge about $10 for every 50-GB a user goes over the allotment.

Shares of Comcast are down about 0.6 percent, but still off session lows.
