Needham & Company maintains a 'Hold' on Ameresco (NYSE: AMRC).

Analyst, Michael Lew, said, "The improvement in the 1Q12 backlog level reflects increased activity in the federal markets. This drove higher operating expenses and led to an earnings shortfall, which offset better than anticipated revenues. The outlook suggests a more pronounced backend loaded year of improving financial performance. We believe the increasing focus on energy efficiency clearly favors Ameresco, which is an established domestic market leader. However, we are taking a conservative stance at this time and would wait for additional signs of a pickup in demand before becoming potentially more positive on AMRC shares."

However, Needham lowers FY12 EPS estimates from $0.84 to $0.80 and cuts FY13 also by $0.04 to $0.96.
