Vendors, Developers Turn to Microsoft (MSFT) as Android Demand Drops (GOOG)

The Migration to Windows 8 has begun... Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may now be getting more love from PC vendors amid weakness from one major rival.

According to Digitimes, the lagging demand for Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based tablet PCs is fueling the move to Windows 8. Recently, Microsoft and Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) entered an agreement whereby Microsoft would make a $300 million cash investment in B&N's NOOK reader. The movement highlights Microsoft's aggressive initiatives to push more development of mobile apps which will tie together PCs, tablet PCs, and smartphones, according to upstream supply chain sources quoted by Digitimes.

Vendors making the switch include Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), Acer and Dell (Nasdaq: DELL).
