Maxim Group maintains a 'Buy' on Barnes and Noble (NYSE: BKS) price target raised to $32.

Analyst, John Tinker, said, "Microsoft’s (Nasdaq: MSFT) $300M JV with BKS (Newco) changes the e-Books digital distribution game...BKS is successfully transitioning from a low growth retailer to a high growth technology firm. Newco (we wonder why it is not being named NOOK) should allow investors to view BKS in a different light, as a high growth potential tech company with a high growth multiple. By contrast, BKS’ lower growth but currently high cash flow, retail bookstore remains at the parent and could trade at a pre-private equity take out value."

"Worst case, MSFT may spend a small amount of money (for MSFT) to market Windows 8 and get access to colleges, where Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is extremely strong. Best case, BKS becomes a serious contender with Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN)(NotRated) and NOOK becomes a leading global player, in the consumer and educational markets."
