Here's the good part of Nokia's (NYSE: NOK) otherwise dismal outlook: the Lumia is selling. And Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone platform appears to be attracting developers.
According to the report issued earlier from Nokia, about 2 million Lumia devices were sold in the first quarter of 2012. Nokia said Lumia device activations have grown every month since starting sales last November.
In addition, Nokia said there are now 80,000 apps available on Windows Phone, which compares to 400,000 available on Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and 600,000 for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS. Of course, Windows Phone still has a significantly lighter global market share than the aforementioned operating systems.
Despite the silver lining, traders are punishing shares of Nokia this morning. The stock last traded at $4.30, down about 14.5 percent from Tuesday's close.
