Wells Fargo maintains an 'Outperform' on Salix Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: SLXP).

Analyst, Michael Tong, thinks today's weakness on in response to approval of generic versions of Viropharma's (Nasdaq: VPHM)(Not Rated) Vancocin.

Tong said, "We believe the association is due to the fact that Vancocin and SLXP's Xifaxan are both considered orallyadministered and locallyacting antibiotics. As such, FDA's denial of VPHM's Citizen Petition could foreshadow nearterm approval of generic Xifaxan...In our view, this connection is misplaced."
