Leerink Swann initiates coverage on DexCom (NASDAQ: DXCM) with a Market Perform. PT $12.00.

Leerink analyst said, "Longer-term, we view the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) market as compelling, potentially $1B+ as it targets a large and undertreated patient population in Type 1 diabetics. DXCM seems well-positioned as FDA and industry work towards an “artificial pancreas"."

However, Leerink's analysts points out to four near-term issues.: 1) low awareness; 2) a "nice-to-have" mindset for CGM vs. a “must-have” in a cost-conscious environment; and 3) limited margin expansion with higher clinical trial spend and the Gen 4 manufacturing transition post 1Q13 launch."
