Shares of Total SA (NYSE: TOT) are down nearly 5 percent Tuesday morning as investors are considering a natural-gas and condensate leak at its Elgin platform in the North Sea. Word of the leak at Well G4 was first heard on Monday.
Total evacuated the rig's nearly 170 essential and non-essential workers, and has since flown in specialists to address the leak issue. Production on the platform has obviously been halted.
A WSJ headline from earlier called the gas leak the "most serious incident in the North Sea" dating all the way back to 1988.
