Barclays on North America Airfreight & Ground Transportation: UPS feels like a little dynamite!

Analysts Brandon R. Oglenski and David E. Fintzen see the acquisition of TNT Express by UPS (NYSE: UPS) for EUR$9.50/share a positive with long-term bullish implications. The elevation in UPS's European profile (vs. DHL and FedEx (NYSE: FDX) will help broaden the company's global logistics. Other positives include market synergies and potential accretion to earnings, but Barclays points out that this will be a long, large and complicated merger.

The two analysts also think this deal removes some overhang on FedEx, since many investors were (and still are) holding their respective breath with the possibility of a bid/counter-bid. However, with the original merger/acquisition announcement between UPS and TNT, changes significantly drop that FedEx will step in.
