Susquehanna's Mehdi Hosseini downgraded Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL) and First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) shares Friday morning. The analyst now rates Trina Solar a Negative, down from Neutral previously, and First Solar a Neutral, down from a prior investment rating of Positive. Hosseini's price targets move from $6 to $5 for Trina and from $55 to $40 for First Solar.

The Trina downgrade follows Q4 results and Q1 and FY12 shipment guidance from the company on Thursday morning and the resulting 11.5 percent decline in the stock.

Hosseini said the First Solar downgraded was related to Germany's plans towards a so-called "soft cap." The analyst pointed out about 30 percent of First Solar's module shipments were expected to come from the country this year.
