Home Depot (HD) Shares Move Higher Following Strong Q4 Numbers, Outlook

Shares of Home Depot (NYSE: HD) are moving higher Tuesday morning following fourth-quarter results and an earnings outlook for 2012.

Revenue for the home building supply giant rose 5.9 percent from $15.13 billion during last year's fourth quarter to $16.01 billion.

Net earnings popped 32 percent to $774 million, or 50 cents per share.

Wall Street was looking for revenue of $15.49 billion and earnings of 42 cents per share.

Comparable-store sales increased 5.7 percent, with a 6.1 percent increase in U.S. sales.

Looking ahead, Home Depot sees fiscal 2012 comps increasing in the low single-digit range. Ahead of expected stock buybacks, 2012 EPS should be $2.72. Following repurchases, 2012 EPS expectations move 7 cents higher to $2.79, versus Street views calling for 2.77.

Finally, Home Depot sees sales growth of 4 percent over 2011 numbers.

Shares are up about 3.6 percent to $48.39 following the numbers.
