Ahead of the expected iPad 3 debut slated for late-February or early into March, one major retailer has slashed the price of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) current iPad 2 model.

According to reports and data from the company, Midwest-based retailer Meijer is cutting the price of Apple's iPad 2 by $70 per unit. The iPad 2s affected include 16-gigabytes of memory and have a WiFi connection.

Meijer is running the deal "only while supplies last" and doesn't include rain checks or substitutions.

In addition to paper circulars, Meijer's website also lists the device at $429 (from the $499 retail price).

Shares of Apple are up about 6 points premarket, inching closer to the $500 benchmark price level.
