Exxon (XOM) Tops Q4 EPS Views Amid Lower Production Volume

Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM) shares are ticking lower Tuesday morning following fourth-quarter results which saw earnings come in just ahead of views.

Revenue for Exxon moved 15.6 percent higher to $121.61 billion, which beat views calling for $119.70 billion in revs.

Net income moved just 1.6 percent higher from $9.25 billion last year to $9.40 billion. Earnings per share were $1.97, beating consensus earnings expectations of $1.96 per share.

Oil-equivalent production decreased 9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2010. Excluding the impacts of entitlement volumes, OPEC quota effects and divestments, production was down 4 percent.

Upstream earnings fell $133 million to $1.184 billion, while Downstream earnings fell $725 million to $425 million.

Notably, fiscal 2011 earnings rose 35 percent to $41.1 billion on "higher crude oil and natural gas realizations, improved refining and chemical margins, and gains on asset sales."
