Wedbush downgraded Meridian Biosciences (NASDAQ: VIVO) from Neutral to Underperform, price target cut from $16 to $14.

Wedbush analyst highlighted points include: 1) High probability of significant VIVO misses and 2012 guidance reset; 2) Cepheid's (Nasdaq: CPHD) growing strength in small hospitals represents a more serious obstacle to VIVO’s Illumigene growth; 3) Implied back half acceleration seems unreasonable given VIVO’s recent track record and susceptibility to EU or other macro regression; and 4) Continued 4.5% dividend yield is not enough to offset future earnings misses.
