EMC (EMC) Tops Q4 Views as U.S. Revs Reach Record Heights

Shares of EMC Corp. (NYSE: EMC) are higher Tuesday following strong fourth-quarter 2011 numbers, though its outlook was lighter than views.

Revenue for EMC rose 14 percent from $4.89 billion during the fourth quarter of 2010 to $5.57 billion.

Net income rose a whopping 32.4 percent to $832.05 million, or 38 cents per diluted share. Excluding certain one-time items related to restrcuturing charges, stock compensation, and more, earnings moved to 49 cents per share.

The Wall Street consensus was at 46 cents per share for earnings and $5.49 billion for sales.

EMC said "...consolidated fourth-quarter revenue from the United States reached an all-time record of $3.0 billion, an increase of 16 percent year over year, representing 54 percent of consolidated fourth-quarter revenue. Revenue from EMC’s business operations outside of the United States reached an all-time record $2.6 billion, an increase of 12 percent year over year, representing 46 percent of consolidated fourth-quarter revenue. Within this, revenue increased 6 percent, 26 percent and 26 percent year over year, respectively, in EMC’s Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia Pacific and Japan; and Latin America regions."

Looking ahead, EMC expects fiscal 2012 earnings of about $1.70 and revs of about $22 billion, slightly lower than analyst views calling for EPS of $1.71 and revs of $22.02 billion.

Shares are trading about 4 percent better Tuesday morning.
