Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 01/19: (TSM) (JBL) (MRK) High; (CHK) (CRK) (GEN) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (NYSE: TSM) high of $14.25. Taiwan Semi up 3 percent today following yesterday's fourth quarter numbers. Investors might be gaining confidence from expected Intel earnings after the close, and expectations for eased lending restrictions in China which could boost demand for electronics.

  • Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE: JBL) high of $23.49. Another chip stock moving on numbers from F5 Networks (Nasdaq: FFIV) and eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY), and ahead of Intel, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) numbers today. The Nasdaq is the leading U.S. market, up 0.7 percent Thursday.

  • Merck & Co. Inc. (NYSE: MRK) high of $39.43. Merck moving 1.4 percent to the high, following reports that Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY) had two experimental pills cleared hepatitis C without the injected drug interferon, showing that the process is possible.
52-Week Low:
  • Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) low of $20.54. Chesapeake down 4.2 percent on the session on natural gas prices. The EIA reported stockpiles fell 87 billion cubic feet last week, less than the 88 to 92 bcf estimated by the Street. February contracts are $0.158 lower to $2.314 per mmBtu on the Comex Thursday.

  • Comstock Resources Inc. (NYSE: CRK) low of $12.24. Comstock Resources also down on lower nat gas prices today. Comstock is down 38.2 percent since a recent high of $20 in early December

  • GenOn Energy, Inc. (NYSE: GEN) low of $2.10. Moving about 1.5 percent lower following a 25 percent drop yesterday as Morgan Stanley started coverage on the stock with an Underweight rating.
